Laserglazing is a new way of glazing ceramics with the use of a computer-controlled laser. Through experimental research that combines both disciplines, this innovative technique has been developed. The method harnesses an unique interaction between glazes and the laser beam, resulting in extraordinary finishes, colours, textures and patterns.
Within this project, a coincidental experiment has grown into a (three-dimensional) research project on ceramic objects. When applying this new technique, various design choices have been made considering the limitations of the laser machine. An obsession with colour combinations and photography results in an intriguing library of images and a distinct visual language. The objects and their finishes stem from these fascinations, giving rise to a series of applied art. Blurring the lines between crafts and technology, unveiling the potential of both disciplines within the field of custom glazed ceramics.
